The Parole Board of Canada may grant a prisoner parole, but the prisoner may not be released for several days or weeks. Prisoners may need to wait for a bed at a Community Residential Facility to open up, transportation to be arranged, etc.

If a prisoner gets into trouble between getting parole and being released, then their parole officer may provide that information to the Board. The Board then has the ability to cancel the prisoner’s parole. If the prisoner’s parole is cancelled, then the Board must still review the prisoner’s case within 90 days. This generally means that a hearing will be held within 90 days.

Prisoners who get into trouble may lose the support of Community Residential Facilities and their Case Management Team, which can make the new hearing much more challenging than the original hearing.
